SWEATING LIKE PAULIE BLEEKER

I’m on week no. 2 of my 5K training program: warmup walk 5 minutes, run 90 seconds, walk 2 minutes, run 90 seconds, walk 2 minutes . . .

It’s going fine except for one thing: I had no idea my body contained so much pourable sweat.

Nobody—and I mean nobody—wants to hear about senior-citizen sweat. It’s bad enough when old people talk about their bowel movements and their gall bladders. But even worse--ewwww . . . old-people sweat.

So the only thing I want to say about that condition is that I now understand perfectly why Paulie Bleeker in the movie Juno wears that gold sweatband. I understand perfectly.

Remember this?

Juno: Wow, your shorts are like especially gold today.

Paulie: My mom uses color safe bleach.

Juno: Go, Carol.

Maybe I’ll watch Juno on the treadmill today for a little running inspiration from Paulie Bleeker.

You go girl! I am inspired! I'd love to know the "program" -- How long do you run for 90 and walk for 2 and how does that progress during the program...I'm almost 60 and trying to stay healthy....Just LOVE your blog!! You've got a GREAT writing style!!!

Dear Anonymous: I found a site at http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

It's called the "Couch-to-5K Running Plan."

It outlines a sweat-inducing nine-week plan in which you train 3 days a week. I just fill in the other four days a week with my usual two-to-four-mile walk and it works pretty well.

Sixty-year-olds of the world unite! We have nothing to lose but our big ol' couch butts.

Just remember to drink water, not Sunny D to quench your thirst. It also won't erase a positive pregnancy test, either, I've already tried. JK. I love Juno.
